June 22nd, 2011

It's been an interesting one, that's for sure! The electric went out yesterday and I was forced to be creative and come up with ways to keep the kids entertained. They have never experienced the impact of a power outage. Luna did not understand why she could not watch Yo Gabba Gabba and Jacek was mad because he wanted to play Nick Jr. games on the Internet. We all sat there for a minute thinking the power was going to come back on but it did not. We decided to play cards. I went to find a deck of cards and the only ones I could find were 'Cutty Sark' with a pinup girl on the cards. They were just excited to play cards. We were playing highest card wins the round and whoever has all the cards, wins the game. Well, my babies started to catch on that face cards and Aces always win. So, they would use the same card over and over until I was out of cards. The game would have been endless; it was very cute though.

Isis, our sweet and elusive cat, was terrified of the thunderstorms. She decided to come upstairs to try and receive some comfort. Luna freaked out, "Isis!" She runs over to the cat and lays directly on top of her. The cat would usually run back downstairs but she really tried to stick it out. I kept saying, "Luna, leave the cat alone!" Luna becomes instantly deaf when an animal is in the room. She just loves animals so much! Isis heads for the bathroom to try and get some space. I see Luna walking out of the bathroom holding Isis. The cat was more terrified of Luna than the storms and retreated back downstairs.

We played Simon Says and I read "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" twice. The kids were starting to get hungry and I wasn't sure what I was going to prepare. I couldn't cook anything. We ended up having salad, apples and cheese and crackers. That's a healthier meal than I would have cooked. After a couple games of "kicky" the electric finally came back on. I decided to the leave the TVs, computers and video games off until the kids realized the correlation. It was neat to switch up the day and enjoy life without electricity. I had fun but the kids had fun, too. Imagine that, fun without TVs and computers on a rainy day. I'm looking forward to our next rainy day... it might be today!
